Hi there,

Unfortunately the error report feature is not available for audio contributions (only for concerts, movies and texts).

What you can do instead is "replace the item" using a beta feature released yesterday. Visit the following page for more details:

http://www.archive.org/update_item.php

Enjoy! And please let me know how the experience goes since this feature is in beta and I could use the feedback,

Jon

Hi Jon,

I've tried it. All the files are in the upload-directory now. But when I try to replace the old files, following the instructions I get this message "You do not have the necessary rights to replace this item. Only administrators and the user who uploaded the item can replace an item."

BTW I am logged in.

Hope to hear from you.

Cheers,

Jan

Great - thanks for helping me debug. I think I've corrected the problem. Can you please try again?

I think it worked this time. At least that's what the message said ...

Thanks!

Great. Let me know how it goes!

BTW, did you find the instructions clear?

I see it's queued now. English is not my mother language, but I understood the instructions well.

Hello Jonathan,

Now we've got an empty download page:
http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-details-db.php?collection=opensource_audio&collectionid=yoghurt2&non_public=1
besides the old one with still the old unedited versions of the recordings:
http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-details-db.php?collection=opensource_audio&collectionid=yoghurt2

another bug?

Cheers,

Jan

No, not a bug - everything is done. The latter link takes you to the final version, with the new files you have uploaded.

The former is not a permanent link, only temporary for curators to see what is going on.

The latter link is the permanent one and you'll notice that the files are thew new ones you uploaded.

Or am I wrong?

Jon

No, you're right. Again I made a wrong assumption. I thought the new files would be located on exactly the same adress as the old ones, so I tried a direct link from my homepage. Appearently the old file was still there. When I download from the download page I get the new versions.

Thanks again!

The files should have gone to exactly the same place.

You shouldn't, however, link directly to files on servers (like audio27) because we move stuff around all the time. Just use the permanent link (/download/ITEM/FILE).

Can you tell me what the old links were and what the new links are? They really should be the same - I'm trying to debug the system here.

Thanks!

Jon

Oops, I think it's because I slighty altered the filenames (I realise now, I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry...) for instance: 1_but.mp3 instead of 1.1_but.mp3

I allready changed everything so I'm doing this half by memory
old links:
http://audio27.archive.org/2/audio/yoghurt2/1.1_But.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/1.2_Gloeboe.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/1.3_Jugular.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/1.4_Drab.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/2.1_Nymph.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/2.2_Hopelessly_devoted.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/2.3_Kokra.mp3

The latter two each also had an additional typo, I noticed

The new links

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/1_But.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/2_Gloeboe.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/3_Jugular.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/4_Drab.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/5_Nymph.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/6_Hopelessly_Devoted.mp3

http://www.archive.org/download/yoghurt2/7_Kroka.mp3

I hope this helps you, otherwise let me know. I'm glad to be of assistence with such a great thing as archive.org!

Cheers,

Jan

Wonderful - everything worked as anticipated. Yes, if you change the name of the files (which is totally fine, and totally up to you), you'll have to update your links on your site.

Thanks for your help debugging, and I'm glad that this new feature proved useful to someone.

Well, There still seems to be a problem. I've tried the update-item once again, because one of the files of a recent contribution was not completely uploaded or transferred. Everything seemed to work fine. This time I didn't change any of filenames (at least not that I'm aware of) The file-information on the downloadpage says the particular file is as large as it should be, but still I get only a fragment of that mp3, when I click the link

http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-details-db.php?collection=opensource_audio&collectionid=52wk26

And this is the file/link in question

http://www.archive.org/download/52wk26/52-26-echo.mp3

I would like to know what went wrong and perhaps it may even be a bug?

Cheers,

Jan

Please be aware that when you click a file to download, it might be coming from our European mirror in Holland. It can take about 6 hours or so to transfer your content to the mirror.

Can you try to download it again?

Thank you for explaining, but probably it takes quite a bit longer than 6 hours. I still get the wrong file. There's no hurry however. I'll post a reply when the file's here.

Hmmm I think you found a bug. I'll make sure the files get copied and that this gets corrected.

Do you have any more items to test with? I could use yet another test case. In short, the updater works fine, but I'm worried something isn't working with the international mirroring.

I checked this, and as of right now (8.26am PST on the 19th), the San Francisco version of the file is correct, but the Amsterdam version is not yet correct - let's see when the Amsterdam version gets copied across.

Sorry this is confusing, by the way!
